RE: Asus G1 Review
Thats the one I own!
Would have been nice to have had an Express Card Slot. Also did not like the stupid light up "fins" on either edge of the screen when playing games, totally useless IMO and have them disabled. Hated Vista, loaded XP...been good ever since! Also I know that physically this one can take 4gig of ram, yet manufacturer says max 2gig. So i'm wondering, anyone know someone who has actually tried and/or succeeded in doing so? |

RE: Asus G1 Review
I don't like the lights either. For some reason I imagined that the G1 looked different than it actually does (more gamerish, like the XPS), and decided that i didn't like it. Then I saw pictures of the G1s and thought "hey that looks nothing like i thought it did". Long story short, it looks cool on the outside. Still not crazy about the inside.

RE: Asus G1 Review
I almost got an A8J series, but got scared off when I heard numerous screen complaints ranging from severe light leakage to horrible viewing angles and such.
How does your look? Had originally wanted a 14" like yours, then found out most of my courses will be online so I could get by on a 15". |

RE: Asus G1 Review
Minimal light leakage, but vertical viewing angles are quite bad. I you move around much. If you're somewhat stationary and watching a movie or something, you won't be bothered. And text reading is not so affected. I actully quite like the screen. But yeah, wanted something lightweight and powerful, and i couldn't afford a W3J or a Macbook Pro, so an A8Js it was.

RE: Asus G1 Review
Ya work bought my dad a new MacBook Pro.
Some good ideas in that thing! Backlit Keyboard is nice. A "Magnetic Power Connector" so if someone trips on it, the cord will pull out causing no damage to the computer!) At my budget a 2k, MBP was around 2.2-2.6k. So what got you guys into ASUS? I liked their motherboards, i own 2 (both STILL run). Hit NBR forums, looked up for awhile and heard they made notebook. Bought my G1, been happy ever since

RE: Asus G1 Review
Use prisjakt.se and pricerunner.se to find my self a laptop, and W3J came up. Googled it, found a review (NBR). Couldn't get it thouugh, too expensive. Checked out other reviews there, and the forums. Then my eyes caught the A8Js. Still, a bit too expensive and no accidental insurence. Almost got an F3jp, but then my baby appeared: within my pricerange with insurance. Been happy ever since.

RE: Asus G1 Review
@ Vaath I'm quite sure the G1 supports 4GB's of memory. I think Asus just put 2GB's down on the specs, because at the time of release 2GB sticks were very rare, and expensive. Now I have seen them for ~$100 per stick!
What got me into Asus was at first their motherboards. My first custom built desktop used an Asus micro ATX motherboard. Then later... I started looking at Asus notebooks. I really liked the W3j jut it lacked a camera and the GPU was not as powerful as the A8js. I almost bought an Asus W3j twice! The first time the dealer told me a price, then raised the price almost $100 USD. The second time when I went to purchase it from another dealer, they told me it was out of stock and they were not sure when they would be getting more. So I decided to just forget buying a notebook, and go with a desktop instead. So now, I only have a desktop, but am looking into buying the Asus EEE PC to use as a secondary PC for simply browsing the net, chatting, word processing, posting on the forums etc. That will be my first Asus notebook.
