AMD Aims to surpass Intel with new Quad Core Architecture
AMD has plans to pass up Intel. AMD claims that their quad core CPU's will be different than the competitors quad core CPU's. AMD will be releasing "native" quad core CPU"s. Not "dual, dual cores" as AMD's FX product manager stated.
Intel however appears to be in the lead. They will be the first to ship out their 45nm quads by the 2nd half of '07. AMD has plans for their Barcelona 65nm Oteron quad cores in the 2nd half of '07. So it will be Intel's 45nm vs AMD's 65nm. AMD also has plans to ship their 65nm native quad core "Phenom." Then the will be playing catch up to Intel's 45nm quads by releasing their Opteron quad core named "Shanghai" sometime in '08.
